shakespeare in the park, park(ing) day

For any Shakespeare and/or open space fans--
The Hudson TMA is hosting International Park(ing) Day in Jersey City.

On Friday, September 17, 2010 from 11 am to 4 pm two parking spaces on Town Square Place (Pavonia Avenue) just off Washington Boulevard in the Newport area of Jersey City will be converted to a park. Our theme this year is “Shakespeare in the Park.” Come support us and enjoy seeing players in Elizabethan costumes from the Actors Shakespeare Company of New Jersey City University perform scenes from various plays of Shakespeare.

All the World’s a Stage –

We hope that a little drama and a rapier fight will bring some attention and give people the opportunity to think about the amount of land currently used for parking that could be devoted to other purposes such as parks. That is the message of Park(ing) Day.

“In urban centers around the world, curbside parking results in increased traffic, wasted fuel and more pollution,” says Rebar’s Matthew
Passmore, the originator of Park(ing) Day. “The strategies that generated these conditions are not sustainable, nor do they promote a healthy, vibrant human habitat. PARK(ing) Day is about re-imagining
the possibilities of the urban landscape.”
Please spread the word and
come visit as Jersey City
will again join 140 other
cities in 21 countries
inspiring city dwellers to
transform metered
parking into temporary
parks for the public good.

"Charade" at the Loews landmark theater

Saturday, September 25 - 8:20 PM Loews landmark theater, JSQ
Charade

Starring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau, James Coburn. Directed by Stanley Donen.(1963, 113 mins., Color) Unrated, but suitable for most audiences.
Audrey Hepburn is an innocent woman caught in a web of intrigue anddeceit when her husband is murdered and she discovers she knew very

little about him that was true. As she is pursued by three men who were apparently her husband's accomplices in the theft of a large sum of money, she looks to Cary Grant for help -- but it turns out he has layers of secrets too, including multiple aliases. Soon, neither the increasingly desperat Hepburn nor the audience knows what to believe or whom to trust. Stanley Donen, better known for making musicals, borrowed some of Hitchcock's favorite plot devices to craft this stylish thriller that also mixes in romance and comedy. Includes beautiful location cinematography of early '60s Paris, and a great score by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini.

"The stranger", Hitchcock at the Loews

Saturday, September 25 - 6 PM
The Stranger

Starring Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young.  Directed by Orson Welles.

(1946, 95 mins., B&W)  Unrated, but suitable for most audiences.

Often considered to be the most "conventional" film that Welles directed, "The Stranger" tends to be overlooked amid "Citizen Kane," "A Touch of Evil" and his other more famous titles.  But this cat-and-mouse hunt to unmask a Nazi war criminal hiding in a sleepy Connecticut town still brims with Welles's flair, such as his extraordinary use of lighting and shadow, long focus and dramatic camera angles.  It's also a first-rate thriller thanks to a great performance by Welles, and also by Robinson.  The theme is a familiar one to Hitchcock fans: evil amid the ordinary, and at least one notable scene have something in common with Hitchcock's "Shadow of a Doubt."

at the Loews "peeping Tom"

Friday, September 24 - 8 PM
Peeping Tom
Starring Carl Boehm, Moira Shearer.  Directed by Michael Powell.
(1960, 106 mins.)  Unrated, but not recommended for children.

This British-made film premiered within a few months of "Psycho," and the two are often compared.  Indeed, "Peeping Tom," about a psychologically damaged young man driven to kill women, is every bit the dark story of madness and murder that "Psycho" is.  It also shares themes of voyeurism and repressed desire with "Rear Window" and "Vertigo."  But if those three films ultimately cemented Hitchcock's reputation as "The Master" of psychological thriller and horror films, "Peeping Tom" all but destroyed the career of Michael Powell, who had been one of Britain's top directors. It was denounced and banned as prurient exploitation, and all but forgotten until Martin Scorsese lauded it as groundbreaking and personally arranged for its re-release. It is both more frank and yet more subtle in its exploration of its themes than any of Hitchcock's works. And it is also a provoking meditation on the appeal of cinema, which is inherently voyeuristic. A half century later, it retains its considerable psychological impact.  Don't miss this rare screening.

WEDNESDAYS
GROUP ACUPUNCTURE with JOSEPH TONZOLA L.Ac.
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
What is Group Acupuncture?
Group acupuncture is acupuncture done in a group setting of about 6-8 people. Acupuncture
done in this manner has many benefits for the patient and the community at large.
Here is a list of a few benefits made available through group acupuncture.
1. Makes acupuncture more affordable and accessible for the community
2. Allows the healing process be a collective one to help with increasing the wellness
effects
3. Brings people of the community together with a common interest of acupuncture
How is group acupuncture done?
With group acupuncture the patient is usually either seated on a folding chair or resting on their yoga mat. The areas needled are typically around the wrists and ankles, the ears, and the scalp. The patient does not need to remove any clothing, but is asked to wear clothing that allows the licensed acupuncturist access to these regions.

What is helpful for?
Group acupuncture can help with treating many different ailments very similar to the way a
private treatment would work. If the acupuncturist feels that a private treatment might serve a
patient’s needs better, then this recommendation will be suggested. Here is a list of positive
effects that group acupuncture can help a patient experience.
1. Relaxation through decreasing stress/anxiety and body’s response to stress
2. Improvement in Sleep and Mental Clarity
3. Decrease Cravings associated with eating and smoking
4. Reduce acute or chronic Body Pain
5. Relieve discomfort associated with menstrual irregularities
Confidentiality?

Patients are asked when they first begin treatment to honor the space where the group
acupuncture is occurring with confidentiality. Initial consults will take place behind a curtain to make each patient feel more comfortable with sharing personal issues. The patient, however, must understand that because of group setting, complete privacy is not possible. Patients usually find that sharing the experience of acupuncture treatment with a small group of people adds to their own personal healing experience.

Who is Joseph Tonzola L.Ac?
Joseph Tonzola is a licensed acupuncturist in both NJ and NY. He has been involved in
patient care for 10 years, 5 of which include professional experience as an acupuncturist.
Joseph currently works an acupuncturist for the Integrative Medicine Department at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. He enjoys working in a group setting with acupuncture for the many benefits made available through this approach. Joseph is a new resident of Jersey City and is excited to integrate himself as an integrative health care provider within the Jersey City community.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling Joseph Tonzola
L.Ac., at 732-232-1679. Walk-ins are always welcome.
