2 openings at NJCU spaces

There is a  two-gallery opening on Sept. 30 between 5 and 8 p.m. Both galleries (located in two different buildings) will have the artist and refreshments so that you can visit both in one evening. We are pleased to have both shows participating in the 2010 Jersey City Artists Studio Tour on Saturday, Oct. 2.  Those who cannot come on Thursday will have an opportunity to visit us on Saturday to attend Elizabeth Demaray's Gallery Talk at 2 pm and Hector Canonge's performance at 3 pm.
The Nike Missile Cozy Project
Elizabeth Demaray

September 30 – November 4, 2010

Artist's Reception: Thursday, September 30, 5 - 8 p.m.
Artist's Talk: Saturday, October 2 @ 2 p.m.

(participating the Jersey City Artists Studio Tour)
Elizabeth Demaray's The Nike Missile Cozy Project, a fabric upholstery for a ten-ton Nike missile was originally on view at the decommissioned U.S. missile site in Sausalito, California in 2001. Preserved as a cozy, Demaray's sculpture is a haunting phantom of the missile and brings to mind the devastation and horror that these instruments can cause. Its intended uselessness and impotence prompts the viewer to ask questions about the history of warfare as well as raising awareness about current political realities regarding nuclear disarmament.
